The tables and diagrams presented in this manual make possible the rapid designing of reinforced concrete structures in accordance with the Joint Committee Recommendations, the American Concrete Institute Recommendations, the New York Building Code Requirements and the Chicago Building Code Requirements. Some of these tables and diagrams will also be found of such a general nature that they can be used when the designing requirements are different from any of those mentioned. No tables are presented based on the flat slab recommendations of the Joint Committee as these recommendations are so conservative that they are not used to any extent.
The authors have for some time been preparing and using in their practice various tables and diagrams in order to finally obtain complete data in the most, convenient form and of the greatest value to the majority of designing engineers. The collection given in this book is the result.
No attempt has been made to develop theory or to duplicate information not directly relating to concrete design which can conveniently be found in other handbooks possessed by all designers.

Vintage Work of Historical and Contemporary Use Interest

Especially of interest to academics and those engineers who seek touchstone information. It is interesting to use comtemporary strength values for reinforcing steel and concrete and compare the results of using these tables and graphs to contemporary ASD methdology. Many of the buldings designed in this era are still serviceable. This is a useful resource for engineers involved in forensic engineering and refurbishing vintage structures; it can give one a reasonable estimate of structural capacity and save time and follow-on effort. I have used this in investigations of old buildings being turned into contemporary offices, loft apartments and condos.
