On the other hand, the fact that there may be a limited demand for it by college students taking advanced courses in electrical engineering has led the writer to follow the method of presentation which he has found successful in teaching electrical design to senior students in the school of Electrical Engineering at Purdue University. Stress is laid on the fundamental principles of electrical engineering, and an attempt is made to explain the reasons underlying all statements and formulas, even when this involves the introduction of additional material which might be omitted if the needs of the practical designer were alone to be considered.
A large portion of Chapter II has already appeared in the form of articles contributed by the writer to the Electrical World; but the greater part of the material in this book has not previously appeared in print.

This is a reprint of design procedures circa 1919. They knew it all back then, so if you are still designing transformers by hand, go for it.
